The Board of Directors of Novonor S.A. has announced that the chairman, José Mauro Carneiro da Cunha, will be the Group’s new CEO as of next Monday, April 5, replacing Ruy Sampaio.

Héctor Núnez, a cuban-american, who has been living in Brazil for more than 20 years, and has acted as the vice-president of operations for Coca-Cola in many countries and as president of Wallmart and Ri Happy in Brazil will replace José Mauro as the chairman of the Board. Núnez is currently Chairman of the Board of Directors of Lojas Marisa.
The choice for José Mauro as CEO and Héctor Núnez as chairman of the Board of Directors terminates the selection that a headhunter company had been making internally within the company and also in the market.

José Mauro joined Novonor’s Board of Directors in October 2019, and in December he became the chairman. He will remain as Chairman of Braskem’s Board of Directors.

With a degree in mechanical engineering from the Universidade Católica de Petrópolis (RJ, 1971), José Mauro began his career in 1974 at BNDES, where until 2002 he had several functions and held different executive positions, including Director and Vice-President. Before coming to Novonor, he served on the board of directors of several companies, such as Telemar, Oi, Vale, Light, Santo Antônio Energia, and Banestes, and others.

Ruy Sampaio, now replaced by Jose Mauro, made it clear that when taking over in December 2019 that he would make a transition management for the future CEO. During this period, Novonor’s court supervised reorganization plan was approved by the creditors and homologated by the courts, and the independent external monitoring by the DOJ and the Federal Prosecution Office was concluded, with certification of the compliance system.

During Ruy’s management, the company approved the Group’s 2030 Purpose and Vision and Commitments, and changed the Odebrecht brand to Novonor. Ruy will continue as a member of the Board of Directors of Novonor S.A.
